the vineyards of the vulkanland region
Our vineyards are located on the foothills of the extinct volcano, the Stradner-Kogel, and were once partially covered by the primeval sea. Therefore, depending on the location, we find different geological conditions that underline the diversity of our wines: from basalt with all its weathering forms such as red clay or basalt gravel, to sandy-calcareous sea deposits and all imaginable mixed forms.
Put simply, one could say: The higher the location of the vineyard, the higher the basalt content, the steeper the slope, the more sand and lime and the further down the slope, the more diversity and mixing through erosion.
